The Canadian Coast Guard contracted for a new fleet of OFSVs to conduct fisheries assessments and scientific ocean research in the Pacific, Maritime and Newfoundland and Labrador Regions of Canada. Hawboldt was awarded full-vessel responsibility for an integrated suite of deck gear including deck cranes, fishing winches and controls, science winches and specialized launch and recovery systems.
The OFSVs serve a diverse end user group that challenge vessel design and operations. The Coast Guard looked to add as much ocean science and fishing research capability within a limited vessel size.
Working closely with the Coast Guard, its naval architects and the Vancouver Shipyards design team, Hawboldt provided over 35 unique pieces of electric and hydraulic research equipment as well as hydraulic integration within the vessels 55 m. hull design.
